I can say whole heartedly that the programs offered at IAL have greatly improved my self confidence, enabled me to feel empowered and strong.
These are results above and beyond the fitness gains I was able to achieve. And prove IAL is genuinely interested in each client’s well being.
(Nike once used the slogan “If you let me play,” to market and promote active lifestyles for young women: “If you let me play sports … I will like myself more … I will have more self-confidence … I’ll be 50 percent less likely to get breast cancer … I will suffer less depression … I will be more likely to leave a man who beats me … I’ll be less likely to be pregnant before I want to … I will learn to be strong.” I think this is suiting for women at all ages. Moreover, I think IAL embodies this slogan).
As a client you are given repeated motivation and support and they are continually evolving your fitness program to push you forward.
As a result, I would have to say that Integrated Active Living helped give me more than what I was looking for.
I have participated in three different types of programs organized through IAL: Personal Training, Dragon Boating and Bootcamp. Each program brings to mind memorable experiences that are priceless: gaining confidence in the fitness studio, enjoying outdoor trails and paths in beautiful Hamilton, being a part of a team, and enjoying the motivation and support from fellow bootcampers.
As a result, I would have to say that I have definitely had fun participating in the programs.
What more is there to say except THANK YOU?

What can I say about IAL to let people know how much I’ve enjoyed my experiences there??? How about I start from the beginning.
A friend of mine had been trying to recruit me to join IAL, telling me how great her experiences had been and how much better she felt both physically and mentally since she had become a part of the IAL team. I was hesitant though. I hadn’t worked out in a while and given that it was going to be one-on-one training, I wasn’t sure I wanted to have someone pay such close attention to me to see just how out of shape I had gotten. Sounds ridiculously self-conscious, but I’m sure a lot of you can relate (hopefully at least).
After a while though, I gave in and at least went to visit the studio with her. I met with Craig and went through the programs that were offered and was pretty impressed. The thing that stuck out for me though, more so than the great programs and the beautiful gym, was when Craig said “As much as I’d like you to join, I don’t want you to join because I think you should or because your friend thinks you should. I want you to join when YOU want to make a change in YOUR life. That’s when you’ll see results.” So I went home and thought about it for a bit and finally decided, “it’s time.”
In the beginning, it was pretty much one-on-one training. All three trainers made me feel 100% comfortable in every task they asked me to complete. They modified each exercise to suit my needs and ensured that I was performing each task safely and properly. It was so comforting just to see how much they cared about my well-being.
After one-on-one training, I tried boot camp. The studio was soon to be renamed (in my head at least) the house of pain. But it was the good kind of pain. The pain where you know your body is being worked and re-worked. No matter how difficult the exercises seemed they might be, we always ended up working our way through them. The trainers enthusiasm and motivation always got us to the finish line. As I write this, I can hear Matt yelling “Feel the pain, Own it, It’s yours.” It’s amazing how easy it is to work out while laughing uncontrollably. There’s nothing quite like leaving a boot camp class - the sense of empowerment is comparable to nothing I’ve ever felt. Not only did I work out, but I had fun doing it. That’s not easy to do, but the guys at IAL made it happen every time I went.
To get back to the reason I joined (just as a reminder, it was me finally saying “it’s time.”), it’s also the reason I stayed. Throughout all of my sessions at the studio, I constantly realized that I was there because I wanted to be. I was “owning” my pain. I had learned not only to be active 3 times a week, but to also make lifestyle changes. The trainers always give you little tips for things you can do throughout your day to help in your training, whether it be how to sit in your chair at work, what you can do on your breaks, how you can stretch and train at home and on your own time, and how you can use the community as your playground.
I’m so grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far and can’t wait for the ones to follow. I’m so happy that MY TIME finally came. When will it be your time???
